Today we learned about honey bees and why they matter.
We started off by watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcpWbccg1qc

Our brilliant students became very concerned about the bees and thought: How can we save the honey bees?

Here are some of their ideas...
We should plant more plants - Deacon
We have to save them from germs - Mark (so they don't get diseases)
By putting garbage in the garbage so there is no pollution. There are people cutting trees and bees houses are attached to trees - Eva
Not pick the flowers - Danica
Not spraying that spray that will kill the hives and flowers (pesticides) - Eldin
Keep them away from birds because birds might eat the bees - Nytesh
Keep birds away from their hives - Zoe

We learned a little bit more about how they make honey and how they collect pollen from flowers. Our ambassadors had the opportunity today to plant a wildflower mix that attracts honey bees. We planted them into peat pots, which can be directly planted into a bigger pot at home - no need to take the plant out. We will watch these plants grow and send them home in a few weeks.
Thank you for supporting our Grade 1 Ambassadors take care of our community and our honey bees!
