Today was our Terry Fox Run! Students in our Room raised $57. Terry Fox wanted to raise $1 for every Canadian, and our students raised more than $1 for every student in our class! Thank you to all families for supporting such an important cause..

Here are two quotes from Terry that explain why we do this run each year.

Please ask your child: How did you do in the Terry Fox Run this year?

Terry Fox was a Canadian Hero. We started to think of some of the heroes in our lives!
Here are the students very thoughtful responses.

We started our Fall Tree art project today...can't wait to share it with you next week!

Reminders: Please book a time to meet with me on October 6 or 7.

Raz-Kids
Thank you SO much for supporting your children with Raz-Kids. We discussed as a class today the number of minutes we should be reading each day. We have discussed that 1-3 books or 10-15 minutes is more than enough time to be reading online. Students may spend a few minutes in the Raz-Rocket or Robot room but the time should be spent reading a few books - not too many.

Tomorrow is our Terry Fox Run! Students will meet briefly around 10 am as a school and begin our run shortly after. All parents and families are welcome to join! We will be running around the soccer posts and baseball field for about 30 minutes or so. Today we practiced the run...

Our big question for tomorrow will be, Why do we do the Terry Fox run each year? Who was Terry Fox? What was he raising money for?

In an effort to continue Terry's legacy, our school will be collecting 'Toonies for Terry.' All proceeds will be donated to cancer research. If you would like to participate, please send any donation amount with your child.

We also sang a Terry Fox song! Sing it with your child below

Today we had our first fire drill! Students did an excellent job in lining up quietly and getting out of the building as quickly as possible. Outside we stood quietly and waited for instructions. Please ask your child about the fire drill and what they thought went very well

Today we read the story Leon the Chameleon by Melanie Watt. Please ask your child to tell you who the main character was. Also, how did Leon feel in the beginning of the story? How did Leon feel at the end of the story? Click here to read it again together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FgIp5QrZik
Some students noticed the colours in the story were primary and secondary colours. Ask your child: what colours did you see?

Please sign into your CBE account to book a parent/teacher/student conference. We will be meeting Oct 6 and 7. We cannot wait to share our learning with you!

If you ordered books from the scholastic book order for the month of September - please check your child's backpack! :)

Sorry for the missed blog yesterday!

Update: After lunch tomorrow, we will be having a school wide fire drill. This will be our first chance to practice lining up quickly and quietly, walking outside, listening carefully for instructions from the teacher.

I went on a walk with my dogs and noticed some beautiful leaves falling off the trees. I collected them for the students to explore.

We noticed the colours...

we noticed the shapes...

we felt the smooth ridges...

and examined the edges...

Ask me what I am doing here...

Came Home yesterday: We have started our exploration of self and have created our 'All About Me' bags. Here are the instructions.
Please support them in filling the bag with 3-5 items. All items will be returned next week once students have presented.

Coming home today: Raz-Kids log in information. Please support your child in logging into our online reading program! Website, Username and passwords are all included on the students blue communication folders.

Coming home today: Field trip information. Thank you to those who have already offered to volunteer for the field trip on the 19th. If you still wish to volunteer, please let us know as soon as possible. All volunteers must already have CBE clearance. The permission forms will come in a few days.

Being a new school, our building can often be a bit dry. Students (and teachers) have been very thirsty! If you would like to, please send your child to school with a labeled water bottle. We will keep them at our desks and are able to fill them throughout the week at our water fountain. All water bottles will be sent home on Friday to be cleaned.

Sorry for the missed blog yesterday!

Today is the first day of Fall!

We learned a new word for fall: Ask your child what it is! Heres a hint...it starts with the letter A

We talked about some of the things we like to do in the Fall. Here is some of our Fall writing!
